Katherine “Kitty” Wenger Owings, 97 of Jonesburg, formerly of Mexico and Benton City, passed away at 11:35 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Arnold Funeral Home with Dr. David Leslie officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Kitty was born Aug. 13, 1916 in Martinsburg, the daughter of Edwin Byron and Birdie Pearl (Buchanan) DeLamatre.
On Dec. 19, 1934, she married John Elbert Wenger and they had two children, Shirley Jean and Bonnie Kathleen. They farmed in Benton City until moving to Mexico in 1976. John Elbert Wenger died in 1987. She then married Ben Owings on Oct. 18, 1991 and he died on Apr. 20, 1996.
Katherine has been a resident at Teal Lake Assisted Living and The Arbors at Lakeview Bend in Mexico since 2006. She then moved to Jonesburg Nursing and Rehab in July 2011, until her death on Sunday.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie (Wenger) Hatcher of Chesterfield; one son-in-law, Ben Alexander of Lake St. Louis; three grandchildren, Marsha (Alexander) Silber and husband, Tom of Labadie, Bernita (Hatcher) Roussin of Jonesburg, and Anthony Hatcher of Ballwin; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher, Thomas and Jacklyn Silber Aanensen, and Nathan Roussin; one niece, Patsy (Cheney) Ockerhausen; and one nephew, Gary DeLamatre.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one sister, Mae (DeLamatre) Cheney; one brother, Edwin DeLamatre; and one daughter, Shirley (Wenger) Alexander.
